US treasury secretary to visit Ukraine for talks with Zelensky — Trump

Earlier, the media reported that President Donald Trump intended to negotiate a $500-million deal with Ukraine to secure access to rare earth metals and gas in exchange for security guarantees as part of any potential peace settlement

WASHINGTON, February 11. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump said he would send US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent to Ukraine for a meeting with Vladimir Zelensky.

"I am sending Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent to Ukraine to meet President Zelensky. This War must and will end soon — Too much Death and Destruction," Trump wrote on his Truth Social page.

"The US has spent billions of Dollars Globally, with little to show. When America is strong, the world is at peace," Trump added.

Earlier, The New York Post reported that President Donald Trump intended to negotiate a $500-million deal with Ukraine to secure access to rare earth metals and gas in exchange for security guarantees as part of any potential peace settlement. Vladimir Zelensky admitted later that large amounts of rare earth minerals that Ukraine had offered to the United States are on territories no longer controlled by the Kiev government. In an interview to Reuters, Zelensky said he was ready to sign a deal, and offered his country’s mineral resources and underground gas storages in exchange for security guarantees.
