ANKARA, February 4. /TASS/. Syria wants to develop strategic partnership relations with Turkey in all spheres, including security, Ahmed al-Sharaa, Syria’s president during the transitional period, said after talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
"Today, the two countries have special brotherly relations and we want them to develop into a comprehensive strategic partnership in all spheres," he said, adding that "cooperation in the sphere of security" is a major strategic goal.
"I hope we will maintain security cooperation to make a contribution to the development of both countries," al-Sharaa said. In his words, he discussed with the Turkish leader the existing security threats "especially in Syria’s eastern and northern parts."
He also said that Syria wants to develop cooperation with Turkey in the cultural, economic, and commercial sectors as well.
Talks between the Turkish and Syrian leaders were held at the presidential compound in Ankara. The countries’ delegations also included foreign ministers and intelligence chiefs. Al-Sharaa was accompanied by his wife, Latifa al-Daroubi.
