MOSCOW, December 3. /TASS/. Ukraine can no longer count on NATO membership or on a "normal peace" with Russia because of Vladimir Zelensky’s actions, a Ukrainian lawmaker said.
"Ukraine has rejected any other security guarantees except for NATO membership. Why always at the wrong time? Before the counteroffensive in 2023, we could have been granted NATO membership and could have had a decent peace treaty - not ideal, but at least reasonable. We cannot have either of these in 2024," said Alexey Goncharenko (listed on Russia’s list of terrorists and extremists).
"Such things are done from a strong position. Now, Zelensky has led the country to a state where such a position has been lost, regrettably," he added.
The Ukrainian foreign ministry said earlier that Kiev would not accept any security guarantees other than NATO membership. NATO, however, is in no hurry to invite Ukraine, despite all of its reassurances that its door remains open to Kiev.
