Patriot and SAMP/T systems to be supplied to Ukraine soon — top brass

Command spokesman Yuriy Ignat did not specify exactly when the Ukrainian authorities expect to receive these systems

MOSCOW, April 10. /TASS/. Patriot and SAMP/T multiple rocket launchers promised by the United States, Italy and France will reach Ukraine soon, Yury Ignat, spokesman for the Ukrainian air force command, said on Sunday.

"We are speaking about the systems - NASAMS, Iris-T, as well as Patriot and SAMP/T, which have been promised to us and which will soon reach Ukraine," he said in an interview aired by Ukraine’s leading television channels. He did not say however when Ukraine expects to receive such weapons.

Apart from that, he said that Ukraine wants the West to supply US F-16 fighter jets.

The Pentagon said on Tuesday that the US had provided Ukraine with another package of military assistance worth $2.6 billion. The package includes munitions for the Patriot air defense system and HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, 155mm and 105mm artillery rounds, munitions for tanks, mortars, about 400 grenade launchers and about 200,000 munitions for them.

In late March, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that Ukraine needed 20 Patriot air defense systems but had not received any. In mid-February, Italy and France announced their decision to supply Ukraine with SAMP/T air defense systems. French Minister of the Armed Forces Sebastien Lecornu said in late March that his country wound supply a SAMP/T system to Kiev in the near future.
