China cautions US against official contact with Taiwan

Earlier, it was noted that Beijing was closely monitoring the developments in connection with the trip of Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen, who made a stopover in the US on March 30 on her way to Belize and Guatemala

BEIJING, March 30./TASS/. China is vehemently against any US visits by Taiwan's administration officials, and warns Washington against any form of official contact with the island, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning told a briefing on Thursday.

"China strongly opposes any form of official communication between the United States and the island of Taiwan," Mao Ning said.

She said earlier that Beijing was closely monitoring the developments in connection with the trip of Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen, who made a stopover in the United States on March 30 on her way to Belize and Guatemala, and would resolutely defend the state’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. As the diplomat pointed out, China opposes any form of official ties between the US and Taiwan, as well as any contact between Washington and Taipei that violates the One China principle.
