EU, US to keep supporting Ukraine 'for as long as it takes' — EC president

The EU in 2023 provides Kyiv with €18 billion, reminded the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen

WASHINGTON, March 11. /TASS/. The United States and the European Union will keep providing military and financial assistance to the Kiev government "for as long as it takes," European Commission (EC) president Ursula von der Leyen said after talks with US President Joe Biden on Friday.

"The overarching message is we will stand by Ukraine for as long as it takes," she said.

The European Commission president said the EU had pledged to donate €18 billion to Ukraine this year, or €1.5 billion every month.

"Strong focus was on the question of sanctions," she continued, adding that Washington and Brussels have already imposed ten packages of sanctions on Russia and are focused "on enforcement and on preventing circumvention" at the moment.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at a meeting of EU defense ministers in Stockholm on March 8 that combined aid, delivered to Ukraine by the US, the EU and other partners so far, has almost reached €150 billion, including weapons and military equipment worth 65 billion euro.
