Russia joins international earthquake response headquarters in Turkey’s Kahramanmaras

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake rocked Turkey’s Kahramanmaras province, located in the country’s southeast, last Monday

KAHRAMANMARAS /Turkey/, February 9. /TASS/. Russia is among the 11 countries that created an international earthquake response headquarters in the Turkish province of Kahramanmaras, a spokesperson for Russia’s response team told TASS on Thursday.

"Eleven countries, including Russia, came together to establish an international headquarters to deal with the aftermath of the earthquake in the Turkish province of Kahramanmaras," he said.

The Russian Emergencies Ministry’s team in Turkey consists of over 150 members who are engaged in search and rescue operations in the Kahramanmaras province, which was the most affected by the quake.

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake rocked Turkey’s Kahramanmaras province, located in the country’s southeast, last Monday. The tremors, followed by about 300 aftershocks, were felt in ten Turkish provinces as well as in neighboring countries, including Syria. The quake’s death toll in Turkey has reached 16,170, while 64,194 people suffered injuries.
