Envoy reveals annual number of cyberattacks targeting Russia

The total damage to the global economy from malicious cyberactivities has, for a few years, amassed into trillions of dollars

MOSCOW, February 7. /TASS/. Anywhere from 100,000 to a million cyberattacks are conducted against Russia every year, the country’s Special Presidential Envoy for International Cybersecurity Cooperation Andrey Krutskikh said on the sidelines of InfoForum 2023 on Tuesday.

"The scale of malicious use of IT technology is astonishing," the Russian envoy said. "According to various estimates, between a hundred thousand to a million hostile cyberattacks are carried out against Russia per year."

The total damage to the global economy from malicious cyberactivities has, for a few years, amassed into trillions of dollars, Krutskikh emphasized. "It is expected to hit $10 trillion by 2025," he added. He cited a figure showing that 25 million hacking attempts against the World Cup in Russia were made in 2018.

"The United States has been putting its aggressive doctrines into practice, without hiding that their cybercommand has been targeting our country," the official concluded.
