US journalist who was killed in Ukraine was working for Time magazine

The New York Times reported earlier that Brent Renaud, who once worked for it, had been killed in the Kiev region and his colleague Juan Arredondo had been wounded

NEW YORK, March 13. /TASS/. American journalist Brent Renaud, who was reportedly killed in Ukraine, has been working on a Time Studios global refugee crisis project, the Time magazine said in a statement on Sunday.

"We are devastated by the loss of Brent Renaud. <…> In recent weeks, Brent was in the region working on a TIME Studios project focused on the global refugee crisis," it said.

The New York Times reported earlier that Renaud, who once worked for it, had been killed in the Kiev region and his colleague Juan Arredondo had been wounded. The US authorities have not yet confirmed the journalist’s death, saying the circumstances of his death are not yet clear.

A Kiev-based hospital posted a video on Instagram featuring Arredondo recalling that the car they had been driving in had come under shelling near a checkpoint in the city of Irpen. However he did not provide any details about who was shooting the the car.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, but aimed to demilitarize and denazify the country.
