Number of COVID-2019 cases across globe up by over 577,000 in past day

According to WHO, the number of fatalities increased by 13,688

GENEVA, January 24. /TASS/. More than 577,000 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection were registered worldwide in the past day, with the overall number of such cases exceeding 97.46 million, the World Health Organization (WHO) said in its daily bulletin on Sunday.

As of 17:43 Moscow time on January 24, as many as 97,464,094 novel coronavirus cases and 2,112,689 coronavirus-associated deaths were registered across the globe. The number of confirmed cases grew by 577,301 in the past 24 hours and the number of fatalities increased by 13,688.

The WHO statistics is based on officially confirmed data from the countries.

North and South America accounts for more than 56% of the COVID-19 daily tally (323,950 cases). Next are Europe (166,047 cases), and Southeast Asia (29,198 cases).

The biggest number of coronavirus cases was reported from the United States (24,604,325), India (10,654,533), Brazil (8,753,920), Russia (3,719,400), the United Kingdom (3,617,463), France (2,985,259), Spain (2,456,675), Italy (2,455,185), Germany (2,134,936), Colombia (1,987,418), Argentina (1,853,830), and Mexico (1,732,290).
