Defense ties underline strategic partnership with Russia, Vietnam’s deputy premier says

MOSCOW, April 2. /TASS/. Defense cooperation for the sake of consolidating global and regional peace and security underlines the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia, Vietnam’s foreign minister and deputy prime minister, Bui Thanh Son, said at a news conference after talks with Russia’s top diplomat, Sergey Lavrov.

"Cooperation in defense and security as well as military-technical ties remain a major pillar of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia," he said. What Bui Thanh Son called a fruitful bilateral cooperation dating back to the Soviet era continues to "develop in line with international law norms and contribute to bolstering peace and stability in the region and globally," he added.

Vietnam and Russia "closely interact with each other and coordinate positions in the international arena as part of the United Nations, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and other international organizations," the senior Vietnamese official added, saying that "the track record of relations between Vietnam and Russia form a solid basis for building up the mutually advantageous partnership."
