Russian Central Election Commission reveals number of polling stations outside of Russia

Pavel Andreyev noted that, under elections law, polling stations outside of Russia can be set up in exceptional cases by the heads of foreign institutions no later than five days before the first day of voting

MOSCOW, March 11. /TASS/. Expatriate Russian citizens residing abroad will be able to vote in the presidential election at 295 polling stations in 144 countries, Pavel Andreyev, a member of the Russian Central Election Commission (CEC), said.

"A total of 295 polling stations have been set up in 144 countries, including seven polling stations within the city of Baikonur, [Kazakhstan,]" he said.

Andreyev added that, under elections law, polling stations outside of Russia can be set up in exceptional cases by the heads of foreign institutions no later than five days before the first day of voting. "This means that the deadline for setting up overseas polling stations expired on March 9," he pointed out.

The Federation Council, or upper house of Russia’s parliament, designated March 17, 2024 as the date of the presidential election. The CEC then announced that voting will take place over three days, from March 15 through 17, making it Russia’s first three-day presidential election.
