Bulgaria lifts sanctions on Russian fuel suppliers until end of 2024 — Cabinet

It is noted that the exception is introduced in connection with the need of providing engine fuel for normal operations of government authorities

SOFIA, October 5. /TASS/. The caretaker government of Bulgaria lifted sanctions on Russian companies - engine fuel suppliers until the end of 2024 due to the challenging domestic situation with the fuel, the government’s press service said on Wednesday after the Cabinet’s meeting.

"It is authorized to enter into new government contracts and framework agreements with engine fuel suppliers from the Russian Federation after October 10, 2022," the press service said. "The exception is introduced in connection with the need of providing engine fuel for normal operations of government authorities and other agencies for purpose of protecting the public order, life and health of Bulgarian citizens and national security. It is in effect until December 31, 2024," the press service added.

Lukoil is the main Russian operator of engine fuel in Bulgaria. It owns a refinery and a retail sites chain in the country.
