US, Russia seek ways to resume inspections under New START Treaty — US diplomat

It is reiterated the US hasn’t resumed talks with Russia regarding an agreement that could replace the New START Treaty

WASHINGTON, August 25. /TASS/. Moscow and Washington have yet to find ways to resolve the issues that caused Russia to suspend US inspections under the New START Treaty, United States Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Bonnie Jenkins said at a news conference on Thursday.

"On the inspection issues, I can just say that I know that we're still trying to figure out how we can make that happen," she said. "While we know that there has been some pushback from Russia, but we're still in the process of trying to figure out how we can make that go forward."

She reiterated the US hasn’t resumed talks with Russia regarding an agreement that could replace the New START Treaty.

"On this on this new START, I think we all aware of that the discussions between the US and Russia on START to follow on to the New START have been not taking place right now as a result of the situation we're dealing with," she said. "And those talks will continue in the future when the situation is right for that to happen."
