OPCW reacts seriously to information about chemical provocations in Ukraine

Alexander Shulgin said that most countries that are not bound by Euro-Atlantic commitments share the concerns and underscore the inadmissibility of using toxic chemicals

THE HAGUE, May 23. /TASS/. The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons reacts very seriously to all information concerning chemical provocations in Ukraine, Russia’s envoy to the OPCW, Alexander Shulgin, told an online briefing on Monday in reply to a TASS question.

"We regularly share with the OPCW’s Technical Secretariate the information we get from the Russian Defense Ministry about the Ukrainian nationalists’ plots for false flag operations involving toxic chemicals," he said. "We have dispatched ten verbal notes, which are available on the OPCW website. Everybody can read them."

For its part "the Technical Secretariate says that it reacts to all information provided by the Russian and Ukrainian sides very seriously," Shulgin said. The organization monitors the situation and is prepared to take action, if need be.

Shulgin said that most countries that are not bound by Euro-Atlantic commitments share the concerns and underscore the inadmissibility of using toxic chemicals.

"On the other side, it is noteworthy that the Euro-Atlantic allies have long opted for turning the OPCW, which is essentially a purely technical organization, into a platform for settling political scores," he said. "For this reason, contrary to the common sense they turn a deaf ear to what Russia is saying. They wittingly blame any incident on our country, thus giving the radicals in Kiev a free hand in staging any adventures involving toxic chemicals. This is a very short-sighted stance. But you can be certain that we will continue doing everything in our powers to let the international community know the truth about what is happening in Ukraine in reality".
