MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. The Bear Patrol website was launched on the International Polar Bear Day. It offers downloadable lessons for school students, instructions for tourists, and training seminars for shift workers, the Clean Arctic Project's press service said.
"As part of the project, our volunteers conduct real patrols of the Arctic territories to mark locations of polar bears, and also they participate in educational activities - they visit schools to teach students how to behave correctly. Materials on the Bear Patrol website may be used for training anywhere. It is especially important that the materials have been developed by qualified specialists, and the work involved key relevant departments," the press service quoted the Clean Arctic Organization's leader of the project office Andrey Nagibin as saying.
The site offers feedback for residents - to report encountered predators to track the animals and to see how their migration routes are affected by the climate change. The website contains recommendations for businesses on employees' safety.
Specifically for students of schools in the Arctic, the Ministry of Education together with experts of the national environment watchdog, Rosprirodnadzor, and the Moscow Zoo, the site offers lessons on polar bear conservation and on behavior in bear habitats.
The Bear Patrol Project started in 2024 in six Arctic regions - Arkhangelsk, Krasnoyarsk, Yakutia, Yamalo-Nenets, Nenets and Chukotka to cut the number of conflict situations between polar bears and humans, which has been steadily growing, and to preserve the rare animal. The Clean Arctic non-governmental organization is responsible for events under the Bear Patrol Project.
