MOSCOW, December 28. /TASS/. The volume of energy coal trading on the Saint Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange (SPIMEX) at the end of 2023 exceeded 250,000 tons, the exchange said.
The main sales volumes - more than 140,000 tons - came from grade D coal. The minimum volumes of exchange sales of coal of this grade are established by a joint order of the Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service and the Ministry of Energy. At the same time, coal grades that were not included in the joint order and for which minimum exchange sales volumes are not established are successfully sold on the exchange. In particular, in 2023, about 70,000 tons of brown coal, as well as coal of other grades, were sold on the exchange.
"The increase in the sales volume of coal grades not included in the joint order indicates the market demand for the exchange channel for the sale of fuel," the exchange said.
All leading coal companies in Russia are currently registered as bidders, with both large generating and small trading companies among the buyers.
