Yandex’s departure from Russia to create jobs in the Netherlands — TV

"The company will create 50-100 jobs in the headquarters in the Netherlands in the first phase," the source said

THE HAGUE, November 25. /TASS/. The withdrawal of the Yandex technology company from the Russian market will create extra jobs in the Netherlands, the NOS TV Channel said on Friday, citing sources close to the decision.

The Russian division comprising the search engine, the food delivery and taxi services and the Yandex name will be sold. Four other divisions will continue operations under a new name and outside Russia.

"The company will create 50-100 jobs in the headquarters in the Netherlands in the first phase," a source told NOS. "The head office is currently situated in Schiphol but could move to Amsterdam," the source noted.

There were a total of fifteen people working at Yandex’s headquarters but the headcount was recently increased to thirty five.

The four divisions in question are related to self-driving vehicles, cloud services, software for online education and real-time data gathering for improvement of algorithms’ operation process.

The last subdivision, a subsidiary of Yandex called Toloka, will create the greatest number of jobs. The self-driving vehicles department will most likely be located in the US, the TV Channel said. The situation with the other two units is not clear yet but Amsterdam is one of the most attractive candidates.

Yandex said earlier on Friday that it is considering the option of spinning off its core business to a separate group of companies. Yandex N.V., the Netherlands-based parent company, plans to withdraw its share in this group of companies over time and change its name. Yandex is also considering the possibility of transferring governance of the group of companies to Russian management.
