Siemens suspends contract for purchase of Sapsan trains for Russian Railways — CEO

Earlier, the German concern Siemens announced that it would continue maintenance of its trains supplied to Russian Railways

MOSCOW, March 22. /TASS/. Siemens has suspended deliveries of new Sapsan trains for Russian Railways, CEO of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov said on Tuesday. He was speaking at the Open Dialogue session at the Federation Council, upper house of the Russian parliament.

"They notified us that at the moment the purchase contract has been suspended," he said.

Belozerov noted that in 2021 Russian Railways acquired three new Sapsan rolling stock. Now they are undergoing certification. The launch of the first train is timed to coincide with St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which is to be held in June.

Earlier, the German concern Siemens announced that it would continue maintenance of its trains supplied to Russian Railways. Sapsan trains are German-made trains adapted for operation in Russia.
