MOSCOW, February 12. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov and Israeli Deputy Foreign Ministry Director General Meirav Eilon Shahar have discussed the prevention of the spread of weapons of mass destruction, including the resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a communique published on its website following their discussions in Moscow.
"A substantive meeting has been held on various matters related to the prevention of weapons of mass destruction and arms control, which are of shared concern, including through the lens of current geopolitical shifts and events in the Middle East," the ministry pointed out.
They emphasized that special focus during the consultations was placed on the potential of multilateral initiatives for resolving the Iranian nuclear program.
At the same time, the Russian side stressed the "absence of alternatives for achieving a durable peace in the region based on the indivisibility of security, which should not be attained by countries in exchange for or at the expense of the legal rights of other nations."
