Fighters of the special military operation are true heroes, providing the people of Russia with guarantees of peace and security, the thoughts of millions of Russians are now with them, President Vladimir Putin said in his New Year's address to Russians, which was broadcast on central channels.

"On this New Year's Eve, the thoughts and hopes of relatives and friends, millions of people all over Russia are with our fighters and commanders. You are true heroes, who have taken on the great military labor of defending Russia, providing our people with strong guarantees of peace and security. We are proud of your courage and bravery, we believe in you," the head of state said.

He recalled that in their honor, as well as in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, which will be celebrated on May 9, the year 2025 has been declared the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland in Russia.

"We are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the generation that defeated Nazism. We are true to the legacy and traditions of our veterans," the President noted.
