Six parties to have seats in Cyprus’ new parliament

After counting 99.8% of ballots, the center-right Democratic Rally party garnered 72.1% of voted

NICOSIA, May 24. /TASS/. Six political parties have won seats in Cyprus’ parliament in Sunday’s parliamentary elections, according to the country’s Central Elections Service.

After counting 99.8% of ballots, the center-right Democratic Rally (DISY) party garnered 72.1% of voted, the leftist Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) - 23.9%, the far-right National Popular Front (ELAM) - 10.9%, the Democratic Party (DIKO) - 10.0%, the centrist Citizens for Cyprus (Alma) party - 5.8%, and the Direct Democracy party - 5.4%.

Thus, DISY will have 17 seats in the House of Representatives, or Cyprus’ unicameral parliament. AKEL will have 15 seats, ELAM and DIKO will control eight seats each, and Alma and Direct Democracy - four seats each. It means that neither of the parties will have a majority.
