BEIRUT, April 23. /TASS/. Jordan moved to ban the Muslim Brotherhood Islamist organization (banned in Russia), confiscate its property and close down all its offices in the kingdom, Interior Minister Mazin Al-Farrayeh said at a news conference.
"The government of Jordan moves to dissolve the Muslim Brotherhood and outlaw this group after special services discovered that it had been plotting a criminal plan against the state," Al Mamlaka television quoted the minister as saying.
According to him, the Islamists have been involved in covert activities aimed at disrupting the situation in the country and undermining national unity.
"Islam is all about tolerance and moderation - these are priorities for true believers," Al-Farrayeh argued. "Extremism and intolerance lead to chaos and violence, sow discord, and cause division," he added.
In mid-April, the kingdom’s Interior Ministry reported foiling a plot against national security. The organization’s political wing is the Islamic Action Front, whose supporters hold 31 out of 138 seats in the lower house of Jordan’s parliament.
