Over 100,000 people deported from US since Trump's inauguration — newspaper

Sources believe the majority of detainees are being sent back to Mexico

NEW YORK, April 1. /TASS/. The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has deported more than 100,000 people from the country since President Donald Trump's second term began, the New York Post newspaper wrote, citing sources in the US Department of Homeland Security.

According to newspaper's sources, law enforcement officials have made 113,000 arrests of migrants and carried out more than 100,000 deportations since January 20. "He [Trump] is doing what he was voted to do. Point blank!" the paper’s sources said.

Sources believe the majority of detainees are being sent back to Mexico, although it was not immediately clear what the status of their cases and their national origins were.

Trump has repeatedly spoken out in favor of stricter US immigration policy. After taking office as president on January 20, he signed an executive order declaring a national emergency on the border with Mexico. The US Department of Homeland Security expanded the powers of US law enforcement agencies, allowing them to expel illegal migrants following the so-called "expedited removal" process, that is, without a court decision.
