Cuba is interested in expansion of cooperation with Eurasian Union — Prime Minister

Manuel Marrero noted that such areas of cooperation as pharmaceuticals, tourism, metallurgy, transport, and the development of banking relations are of particular importance for Cuba

MOSCOW, December 13. /TASS/. Cuba is interested in further expansion and diversification of cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero said speaking online at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.

"We are constantly trying to work on creating a new, fairer and inclusive international financial and economic architecture that takes into account the capabilities and real potential of our countries. In this regard, Cuba is strengthening its relations with the EAEU and, more recently, with the BRICS association, the summit of which in Kazan in October was attended by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," the Prime Minister noted.

Marrero touched upon Cuba's participation in events held by the EAEU, noting the intention of his country "to play a more active role as an observer state in the union."

The Prime Minister noted that such areas of cooperation as pharmaceuticals, tourism, metallurgy, transport, and the development of banking relations are of particular importance for Cuba.

Marrero recalled that the international industrial fair FIHAV-2024 was held in Havana in November, in which delegations from more than 60 countries took part including Russia.

"Although the exhibition had to be closed ahead of schedule due to the strong impact of Hurricane Rafael, we were able to present an updated portfolio of our country's business opportunities, which includes 607 investment projects distributed across all provinces of Cuba, in such areas as oil industry, telecommunications and information technology, and transport," the Prime Minister said.

"Foreign delegations noted the favorable conditions for doing business in Cuba, even in the context of a very difficult economic situation. Cuba strives to strengthen relations with the world," Marrero said.

"This year marks the 10th anniversary of this important partnership (referring to the 10th anniversary of the signing of the agreement on the creation of the EAEU - TASS), which extends beyond regional borders. Rest assured that, despite all difficulties, you can always count on Cuba's modest but sincere contribution and the solidarity inherent in its people," Marrero added.
