Ukraine installs fortifications along border with Transnistria

Andrey Demchenko argues that what he described as "provocations" might occur in this area at any time

MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. For about a year Ukraine has been strengthening its positions on the border near unrecognized Transnistria, Ukrainian border guard service spokesman Andrey Demchenko said on Tuesday.

According to the official, fortification work near the border with Transnistria has been underway since February last year.

"The defense forces, including the State Border Guard Service, have fortified this area. Such activity is still continuing," he said on the Rada TV channel.

Demchenko argues that what he described as "provocations" might occur in this area at any time. Under the Ukrainian government’s decision all checkpoints on the border with Transnistria are closed.

On Monday, the spokesperson for the southern operational command of the Ukrainian armed forces, Natalia Gumenyuk, said that Ukrainian troops had been moved to the border with Transnistria.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Kiev regime has stepped up preparations for a false flag operation. It plans to invade Transnistria in retaliation for an alleged Russian offensive from that territory. The Defense Ministry said it had identified a significant buildup of Ukrainian manpower and military equipment near the border and deployment of artillery, as well as an unprecedented increase in flights by Ukrainian UAVs over the territory of Transnistria. The Russian Defense Ministry promised to adequately respond to the impending provocation, which poses a threat to the peacekeeping contingent stationed in the republic.
