Lithuania insists on blacklisting head of Russian Orthodox Church — top diplomat

Sanctions against Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All-Russia were earlier expected to be included in the EU’s package of restrictions but the move was opposed by Hungary

VILNIUS, June 9. /TASS/. Vilnius calls for finding a solution on blacklisting Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All-Russia, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis told reporters on Thursday.

"It can and should be done because a set of obvious arguments has been put forward to blacklist Kirill," he said.

Sanctions against Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All-Russia were earlier expected to be included in the European Union’s package of restrictions but the move was opposed by Hungary. The country’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban said earlier in the week that Budapest would never support sanctions against religious leaders without whom peace could not be achieved.

"I can’t say, I don’t know why Kirill was removed from the list while a political decision had been taken," Landsbergis noted.
