BEIRUT, May 14. /TASS/. The UAE’s Federal Supreme Council has elected Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as President of the United Arab Emirates, the WAM news agency reported on Saturday.

The council overwhelmingly elected Abu Dhabi Crown Prince as new president of the UAE, according to the report. The meeting was headed by Dubai Ruler and Prime Minister of the UAE Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum who temporarily served as head of state.

President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan died on Friday at the age of 73 after a serious illness.
