Hainan hosting exhibition of contemporary Russian art, Xinhua reports

The exhibition can be considered a bridge toward stronger humanitarian ties between Russia and China, Director of Hainan Museum Zhu Lei says

HAIKOU, August 22. /TASS/. An exhibition of contemporary Russian art is currently being held in Haikou in south China’s Hainan Province, Xinhua news agency reported.

The exhibition, featuring five sculptures and 30 oil paintings from 10 Russian art masters and titled Masterpieces from Contemporary Russian Art Masters, is running from July 18 to October 8. It was organized by the Union of Artists of Russia.

According to the director of Hainan Museum, Zhu Lei, this exhibition can be viewed as a bridge toward stronger humanitarian ties between Russia and China, which gives a cultural impetus to the Hainan Free Trade Port project.

The goal of the exhibition, its Chinese curator, Zhu Yufeng, explained, is to introduce the Chinese audience to a bright-colored contemporary art rather than the usual classics.

"Art knows no borders. Both Chinese and Russian art looks like two parallel mountain ranges that will finally culminate at the top of global art,” Xinhua quoted him as saying.
