US authorities to release Russian national Alexander Vinnik soon — lawyer

Frederic Belot said that he was "very happy" for Vinnik

MOSCOW, February 12. /TASS/. Russian national Alexander Vinnik will soon be released from Santa Rita jail in the US and sent back home, his French lawyer Frederic Belot told TASS.

"I visited Alexander this summer in Santa Rita jail; he was in a very bad situation," he noted, adding that Vinnik was currently "in the US preparing for extradition."

The lawyer said that he was "very happy" for Vinnik.

Vinnik was detained in Greece on July 25, 2017, at the request of the United States, where he is accused of laundering $4-9 bln through the now defunct crypto exchange BTC-e. He was extradited to the United States on August 4, 2022.
