Most Russians trust president, army, Academy of Sciences above all else

Nearly all respondents (about 90%) have full faith in their family, while around 60% believe they can put their full trust in friends

MOSCOW, November 14. /TASS/. The overwhelming majority of Russian residents trust their president, the army and the Academy of Sciences above all else, according to a report by the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences titled "Modern everyday life in Russia: Based on the Materials of Sociological Monitoring," presented at a press conference at TASS.

"In terms of institutional trust in state organizations, the impulse to 'rally around the flag' remains a powerful force. As before, the hierarchy of trusted institutions is led by the Russian president and the Russian Army, which are trusted by nearly 80% of citizens. For several years, the Russian Academy of Sciences has consistently held third place in the public trust ranking," the report said.

Nearly all respondents (about 90%) have full faith in their family, while around 60% believe they can put their full trust in friends. At work, the level of trust is much lower, with less than 20% feeling that their colleagues are fully trustworthy.

Researchers note that since last year, only trust in friends has significantly increased, rising by nearly 12 percentage points.

"The ‘payoff’ from interpersonal trust is generally seen as the support provided by close relations. The dynamics show a notable increase in the share of Russians who report being able to borrow money from those closest to them, rely on their help in finding jobs, or gain assistance with getting their children into good schools or universities," the study found.
