Roscosmos to go ahead with research into LNG-fueled rocket Amur

MOSCOW, March 10. /TASS/. Russia’s space corporation Roscosmos has decided to go ahead with developing a future reusable methane-fueled launch vehicle Amur.

"On March 9, 2023, a state contract was signed for the development of a technical project for the future promising Amur-LNG system," Roscosmos said in a news release on Friday.

During the technical design phase, it will be necessary to consider the use of natural gas-fueled rockets to put manned spacecraft into orbit. The technical design phase is to be completed by the end of 2024.

In October 2020, Roscosmos and Progress space rocket center signed a contract for the development of a preliminary design of a space rocket complex with what will become Russia’s first reusable methane-fueled rocket Amur. The rocket having a reusable first stage, will be launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome in the Amur Region.
