TURKMENBASHI, Turkmenistan, October 7. /TASS/. CIS member states believe they need to coordinate their activities within the UN, the organization’s Secretary General Sergey Lebedev said.
"Delegation heads, those being foreign ministers, shared their views and outlined their countries’ positions on international affairs. They also discussed cooperation among our states, which was the main focus of the closed-door meeting. We agreed that it is necessary to coordinate our activities within the United Nations, especially since Turkmenistan plays a leading role at the UN as a neutral state," Lebedev told reporters following a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers.
He added that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will attend the CIS summit for the first time this year. "This shows the growing standing of the CIS and the expansion of the scope of its activities," the secretary general said.
The next meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers will take place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, in April 2027.
Turkmenistan holds the CIS chairmanship in 2026. The next meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State will take place in Turkmenbashi on October 9. Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the summit.
