Ukrainian army has no future in Kurakhovo anymore — DPR head

Denis Pushilin added that Russian forces hold the initiative nearly along the entire frontline

MOSCOW, February 17. /TASS/. The ongoing fighting near Ulakly west of the town of Kurakhovo in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) accelerates the speed of Russian advances there, regional head Denis Pushilin told the Rossiya-24 TV channel.

"The story of the so-called Kurakhovo pocket [of resistance], which formed as a result of our units’ advances, is coming to a logical conclusion. And now we can see that hostilities have started in the area of the settlement of Ulakly. Well, the enemy has no options left there. We can see steady advances of [Russian] units," he said.

The regional head added that Russian forces hold the initiative nearly along the entire frontline. In particular, they have expanded their area of control in the Velikaya Novosyolka direction.

On January 6, the Russian Defense Ministry reported the full liberation of Kurakhovo. According to Pushilin, the fortified area in Kurakhovo is comparable to Avdeyevka and Ugledar in terms of strategic importance.
