Russian House in Azerbaijan says suspends activities

The decision was made "in line with the request of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry"

BAKU, February 11. /TASS/. The Russian House in Baku is halting its operations to fulfill the demand of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, it said.

"In line with the request of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the representation office of Rossotrudnichestvo - Russian House in Baku is taking measures to halt its activities," it said on its page on Facebook (banned in Russia, owned by Meta Corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia).

Earlier in the day, it said it had started dismantling its signage from its building.

Last Thursday, spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Aykhan Hajizada, said that Baku had sent a notification to Moscow on February 3 stating the termination of the Russian House's activities, as it lacked registration as a legal entity.

The head of Russia’s Agency for International Humanitarian Cooperation, Yevgeny Primakov, confirmed that the cultural center in Baku had received a note from Azerbaijan stating the need for official registration. He added that the Russian House must vacate the rented premises within a month and a half, as the landlord had announced plans to sell the property in the near future.
