Haitian people face neocolonial challenges from outside — Russian Foreign Ministry

Russian-Haitian cooperation is based on the principles of friendship, equality and respect for sovereignty, the ministry said in a statement

MOSCOW, January 1. /TASS/. Russia condemns the neocolonialists whose actions from outside provoke economic instability and a complicated crime situation in Haiti, the Foreign Ministry said on the occasion of Haiti’s Independence Day.

"Today, many of the challenges facing Haiti, including economic instability and a complex crime situation, are a direct result of colonial and neo-colonial practices," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. "Our country, with its rich historical experience of supporting peoples in their struggle against colonialism and neocolonialism, strongly condemns such actions."

Russian-Haitian cooperation is based on the principles of friendship, equality and respect for sovereignty.

"We are united by our adherence to the principles of international law enshrined in the UN Charter, including respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

It pointed out that the close ties linking Russia and Haiti in the field of education contributed to the training of highly qualified personnel in Russian universities, which in turn facilitated the solution of Haiti's internal problems.
