Russian MFA says West could try to pull off some military 'scheme' in Belarus

A presidential election campaign is starting in Belarus on January 1, with the election scheduled for January 26

MOSCOW, December 25. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Western countries could attempt to put in motion some reckless military "scheme" in Belarus ahead of elections in that nation.

"Amid failed efforts to knock the Belarusian society off balance from within, one can't rule out West’s new attempts, with the help of the Ukrainian armed forces <…> under its control, to implement some scheme in Belarus, including a military one," she said at a news conference.

A presidential election campaign is starting in Belarus on January 1, with the election scheduled for January 26. The Belarusian Central Election Commission registered five presidential candidates including incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko.
