Putin responds to question about Russia's weakness by quoting Mark Twain

The president noted that Russia had become much stronger over the past two or three years as it became a truly sovereign country

MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. Answering a question from an American reporter about Russia's supposed weakening, President Vladimir Putin recalled a famous quote from Mark Twain.

"To those that think Russia has become weaker, since you are an American, let me quote a well-known author, who once said: ‘The report of my death was an exaggeration'," Putin was quoted as telling NBC reporter Keir Simmons during his combined year-end question-and-answer session and press conference.

The president noted that Russia had become much stronger over the past two or three years as it became a truly sovereign country and added that the country was not dependent on anyone and certainly able to stand on its own feet in terms of the economy.
