Kursk situation 'nearing resolution,' Kremlin says

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree appointing State Duma lawmaker Alexander Khinshtein as the region’s interim governor

MINSK, December 6. /TASS/. While the situation in Russia’s border region of Kursk remains tense, a resolution will be found, and soon, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"The situation is nearing resolution," Peskov responded to a relevant question. "Time will tell how soon [it will be resolved]. But there will certainly be a resolution, and the situation will return to normal," he assured reporters.

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree appointing State Duma lawmaker Alexander Khinshtein as the region’s interim governor. Commenting on the move earlier on Friday, Peskov called Khinshtein the right man for the job, showing faith in him to handle the crisis the region is facing.

As soon as the enemy is ousted from the Kursk Region, the Russian presidential spokesman continued, it will be necessary to rebuild it and restore the utilities sector there. As a talented leader with a successful track record across various areas, Khinshtein will use his personal connections with executives to accomplish everything the president asks of him, Peskov said with confidence.
