SOCHI, November 8. /TASS/. Russian journalists face multiple barriers while fulfilling their professional duty in the United States and Europe, despite the declared freedom of speech, Russian President Vladimir Putin told the plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club.
"Our [press] there is under pressure, despite all declarations about the freedom of the press. Our journalists face difficulties while working in Europe or in the United States," he said.
Putin added that unlike "Anglo-Saxons, who operate a broad network of global media," Russia has only one channel for delivering its point of view to the Western audience, namely Russia Today.
"But it is enough for them to be afraid, to try to close it down," Putin said.
The Russian leader added that he is "open [to the Western media] whenever possible."
"As you know, I used to meet with Tucker Carlson, and there are some contacts with Western journalists from time to time.".
