No discussions in Kremlin on conscription of women, two-year conscription term — spokesman

Earlier, First Deputy head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov proposed returning to the two-year conscription term

MOSCOW, October 21. /TASS/. The Kremlin is not currently considering increasing conscription terms or drafting women, spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Friday.

"The Kremlin does not have any position on this issue, this topic was not discussed, and the most important thing here is, of course, the opinion of the Ministry of Defense," Peskov said, commenting on the idea to increase the term of army service. "In any case, the Kremlin had no discussions on this issue."

Speaking about the idea to conscript women, the spokesman also noted that "there were no discussions on this topic" in the Kremlin.

Earlier, First Deputy head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov proposed returning to the two-year conscription term. According to the senator, this decision will make it possible to increase the size of the Russian Armed Forces and train professional soldiers. Dzhabarov stressed that this issue is up to the President and the Defense Ministry to decide.

State Duma deputy Alexey Chepa also opined that Russia could follow the example of Israel, which conscripts women.
