Over 550 people evacuated from three villages in Belgorod region after shelling — governor

The region's governor Vyacheslav Gladkov met with the evacuees and discussed the reconstruction of damaged houses and transport

TASS, May 25. Authorities of the Belgorod region have evacuated about 550 residents of Zhuravlevka, Nekhoteevka and Solokhi, which were subjected to repeated shelling from Ukraine in May, the region's governor Vyacheslav Gladkov announced on Wednesday.

"I met with the residents whom we evacuated from the border villages of the Belgorod region. Almost 550 people are now accommodated in the hotels of the regional center. These are residents of Zhuravlevka, Nekhoteevka and Solokhi," Gladkov wrote on his VKontakte page.

As the governor of the region noted, one of the main issues voiced during the meeting was the reconstruction of damaged houses and transport. The region's authorities plan to begin the necessary work after the situation in the villages stabilizes.

"Funds and materials are available. Contractors have also been found. Questions about each house and vehicle will be closed only when the head of the municipality has a receipt from the owner that everything has been restored in full and there are no claims," Gladkov added.

Several border villages in the Belgorod region, including Zhuravlevka, Nekhoteevka and Solokhi, have been subjected to repeated shelling from Ukraine. Within a month, the damaged houses and outbuildings in the village of Golovchino were completely repaired; work was going on in 97 houses at the same time.
