Poland not dropping idea of deploying NATO peacekeepers to Ukraine - Russian ambassador

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the alliance would not deploy troops to Ukraine, as it may be engaged in full conflict with Russia

MOSCOW, March 26. /TASS/. Polish officials say that are not abandoning the idea of deploying NATO peacekeepers to Ukraine, Russian Ambassador in Warsaw Sergey Andreev said on the Soloviov Live project on Saturday.

"As for the idea of a peacekeeping operation, everything seems clear: Americans said that they would not deploy their troops, the NATO secretary general said that NATO was not considering such an operation. However, [Polish] officials say that they are not giving up on the idea, they will think, see and so on," he said.

"I do hope that common sense will prevail," Andreev said.

Earlier, Warsaw proposed to deploy a NATO peacekeeping mission to Ukraine’s western regions. Polish President Andrzej Duda had planned to present his proposal to US President Joe Biden at the NATO summit held on March 24. After the summit, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the alliance would not deploy troops to Ukraine, as it may be engaged in full conflict with Russia.
