Personal sanctions aiming to reduce support for Putin pointless — Kremlin

On Thursday, it became known that the US authorities introduced sanctions against Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as against a number of major Russian businessmen and their families

MOSCOW, March 4. /TASS/. Dmitry Peskov, Press Secretary of the Russian President, said that personal sanctions do not stand a chance, if their goal is to turn people away from their support of President Vladimir Putin.

"If the sanctions are aimed at influencing the addresses to change their position, to refuse to support the President, then these sanctions have no chance of being successful. Everything else is unimportant," Peskov told reporters on Friday.

When commenting on the introduction of personal sanctions against himself by the US the Kremlin spokesman said that "unfortunately, such a decision has been made."

On Thursday, it became known that the US authorities introduced sanctions against Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as against a number of major Russian businessmen and their families. The imposed sanctions imply the seizure of overseas assets.

Alongside with Peskov the list includes Nikolai Tokarev, Boris and Arkady Rotenberg, Sergey Chemezov, Igor Shuvalov, Yevgeny Prigozhin and Alisher Usmanov. In a number of cases, it is indicated that the restrictions affect the spouses and children of the persons included in the list, as well as their companies and other property.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a televised address on February 24 that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation. The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories.

After that the US, the EU, the UK and a number of other states announced that they would impose sanctions against Russian legal entities and individuals.
