MOSCOW, July 16. /TASS/. Former US ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul joined a chorus of US political commentators issuing gloomy notes on Monday's summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Helsinki, saying Putin had scored a fantastic victory.

His series of one-sentence remarks in Twitter reflected the general tonality of comments by Washington politicians and mainstream media analysts.

"Putin just scored a fantastic victory at Helsinki 2018," Mc Faul twittered. "Trump continues to shock."

"The expectations bar for Trump today at was so low," he wrote. "All he had to do was pushback just a little. He decided not to do so. Deeply disappointing."

"How awful was this 'summit'?" McFaul asked with a definite rhetoric note. "[Russian Foreign Minister Sergey] Lavrov says the talks went 'better than super'. That sounds like complete capitulation on our side to me.".
