WASHINGTON, January 1. /TASS/ The perpetrator of the terrorist attack in New Orleans (Louisiana) has been named - he is 42-year-old US citizen Shamsud Din Jabbar, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has told TASS.
"The suspect has been identified as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, a US citizen from Texas," the FBI said.
The Bureau also noted that the perpetrator "was driving a Ford pickup truck, which appears to have been rented, and we are working to confirm how the subject came into possession of the vehicle."
On New Year's Eve, "At approximately 3:15 am CST an individual drove a pickup truck into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing at least 10 and injuring dozens of others. After hitting the crowd, he exited the vehicle and fired upon local law enforcement. Law enforcement returned fire and the subject was pronounced deceased at the scene," the FBI said.
The incident is being investigated by the Bureau, which has classified the incident as a terrorist attack.
