ANKARA, March 21. /TASS/. The United States agreed to make an exception from its sanctions for Hungary when paying for Russian gas supplies under contracts with Gazprom, Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said after the meeting with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan.
The previous US administration introduced sanctions against Gazprom and Gazprombank that resulted in a difficult position for Central European countries, the minister said. "We received information from Washington yesterday that our request to make an exception for us from these sanctions was satisfied," Szijjarto noted. "Supplies of energy resources to Hungary are reliably guaranteed" owing to that decision of the administration of US President Donald Trump.
The exception from sanctions against Gazprombank for Hungary will be effective until May, Szijjarto added.
