Trade turnover between Georgia, Russia up 1.3% in January-February

With Russia being Georgia’s second-biggest trade partner, its share in the republic’s total external trade volume equaled 11.7% in the reporting period

TBILISI, March 19. /TASS/. Trade turnover between Georgia and Russia exceeded $416 mln in January-February 2025, which is 1.3% higher than in the same period last year, according to data released by the National Statistics Service of Georgia.

With Russia being Georgia’s second-biggest trade partner, its share in the republic’s total external trade volume equaled 11.7% in the reporting period. Georgian exports to Russia amounted to over $71 mln (down by 25.7% in annual terms), while imports were worth more than $344 mln (up by 9.7%).

The US was Georgia’s biggest trade partner in the first two months of this year, with mutual trade turnover equaling over $486 mln, up by 89.5% compared with the same period in 2024. Turkey came in third with mutual trade turnover exceeding $384 mln, down by 18.7% year-on-year, followed by China (over $279 mln), the UK (more than $278 mln), and Azerbaijan (over $213 mln).

Georgia’s foreign trade turnover totaled more than $3.5 bln (up by 15.6%) in the reporting period, with exports having exceeded $835 mln (up by 4%), while imports having surpassed $2.7 bln (up by 19.6%). Negative foreign trade balance exceeded $1.8 bln in the first two months of 2025.
