Zelensky does not let Russian gas flow to Europe for US’ benefit — Medvedchuk

The agreement on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine expired on January 1, 2025

MOSCOW, February 15. /TASS/. Vladimir Zelensky has terminated the transit of Russian gas to European countries at the direction of the United States, which benefits from selling its own gas to Europe, Viktor Medvedchuk, former leader of Ukraine’s banned "Opposition Platform - For Life" party, who now leads the "Another Ukraine" movement, said in an interview with TASS.

"It is beneficial for the US not to let Russian gas flow to Europe under any conditions. And here Zelensky acts not in the interests of the Ukrainian people, but at the direction of the US to make sure that Europe purchases gas from the US twice as expensive compared to Russian [gas]," he said.

The agreement on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine expired on January 1, 2025. It provided for the pumping of 40 billion cubic meters annually. However, Kiev’s refusal to extend the agreement deprived Gazprom of the technical and legal ability to supply fuel via this route, and therefore supplies were stopped on the morning of January 1.
