BANGKOK, January 22. /TASS/. Thailand expects to welcome around 1.9 mln tourists from Russia, the kingdom's largest European tourist market, by the end of the year, the Bangkok Post reported.
"For the long-haul market, Russia remains the top source market from Europe, with a projected increase of 10% from 1.7 mln arrivals last year," the newspaper said.
According to the newspaper, "TAT governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool said for the overall target, 2 trillion baht is expected to be generated from 39-40 mln foreign arrivals, with 1 trillion derived from 200-220 mln domestic trips."
According to Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the flow of tourists from Russia to Thailand increased by 18% in 2024 compared to the previous year, when 1.48 mln Russians visited the country.
From January 1 to December 31, 2024, 1.745 mln Russians visited Thailand, repeating the Kingdom's 2013 visitor record and ranking fifth in the number of visits among all national tourist groups. In the first three weeks of this year, 165,500 Russians arrived in Thailand. They currently rank third in the number of foreigners visiting the Kingdom.
